Guwahati High Court declares Mizoram’s anti-Chakma education rules illegal–Ep4 # The Rights View

The Guwahati High Court today declared that Mizoram’s State Technical Entrance Examination (STEE) Rules 2016 as unsustainable in the eyes of the law and put back the Chakmas into Category 1 of the candidates at par with the Mizo candidates. The Mizoram Chakma Students Union (MCSU) filed a PIL challenging the Rules that put the non-Zo candidates like the Chakmas into ‘general category’ through the backdoor. In 2017-2018, many Chakma students were denied admission in the MBBS and Engineering courses under this Rule.
